This is a question that I’m asked often…
Will my insurance cover your services? Not to be evasive, but the answer depends on the question being asked…
CranioSacral Therapy, although very different most styles of massage or types of massage therapy, is classified, for insurance billing purposes under Massage Therapy or Manual Therapy.
So here are the 2 questions to ask your insurance company when inquiring about coverage:
1. Is Massage Therapy covered under my insurance policy?
If the answer is “Yes”, then ask for a couple of claim forms to be mailed to you.
If the answer is “No’, then ask #2
2. Is Massage Therapy covered under my policy if I have a referral/prescription from my doctor?
Many times, insurance companies will say No to the first question, and Yes to the second question.
Other good questions to ask are:
- What is the maximum dollar amount allowed for Massage Therapy under my policy each year?
- What claim form(s) do I need?
- What supporting documentation do I need to submit with each claim?
- Where should I mail the claim and supporting documentation?
- How long will it take to get reimbursed?
- Who should I call to follow-up on a claim once it’s been submitted?
